Living in rapidly changing world, so much we need to ask meaning, especially, true objectives of what we are doing in our specialized fields.
From this standpoint, here the author proposes to ask the following question anew :
"Why design ?"
Typically, we become to think of design when "individuality" (diversity of individuals) becomes an issue in such a form as "organization development in concord with individuals development".
Here "indivisual" means person, group, organization, nation, etc., depending on cases.
'Diversity of individuals' is a definite fact we witness in every situation. So we cannot help asking its meaning and its application to the deed of design.
"Why the diversity of individuals ?"
The author, as a professor of a teacher training college, is practicing course designing, class coordinating and learning objects making (as information design) and, accordingly, daily faced with this type of problem about individuals diversity.
The point is : we aim at both students' personal development, which is the general objective of education, and organization (community) development, which is a requirement for the education to be actual and practical. The structure is apparently contradictory ("diversity v.s. concord", "individual v.s. whole") and, in this sequence, design in regards to individuals diversity becomes an issue.
This monograph is to consider the meaning of individuals diversity for the design and to propose a scheme and solution for today's organization design.
He argues that the inquiry of design is the inquiry of the meaning of individuals diversity with respect to organization shift, in the sense that : organization activation is the state where diversity of individuals becomes evident and activated, and, through it, organization shifts up to a new stage.
The concept of "design in regards to diversity of individuals" is closely related to the thought of democracy, or its philosophical partner, pragmatism ([3]). Indeed, the "diversity of individuals" is the principle/premise of the democracy. The author expresses it in the way : "Diversity of individuals is, as a moment of organization (community), definitely present before everything.
In connection with it, he suggests that design science/engineering is nothing but a science/engineering of democracy/pragmatism. Experienced organizers have their own rules of thumb for coordinating/controlling diverse individuals s. The science of design is expected to contribute methods mostly to the practice of organization. Thus, the inquiry of design is not to focus on "commonness" of individuals, but rather "diversity".
Finally, the author proposes the 'web-based' as a potent means/solution for today's organization design, which he certifies by his professional practice of course/class design at teacher training course.
